Emily Sciarini
The Emily House project is developed on a pre-existing building that consisted of an old stable. Over the years it underwent several transformations until it was abandoned around the 1970s.
One of these happened in the 1950s, when the municipality decided to widen the main road by literally cutting off the buildings that were on the new street footprint, creating a series of buildings adjacent to the road with asymmetrical roofs.
The building is located in Breno and is protected by ISOS.
It was therefore imperative to maintain the perimeter of the original house, with its characteristic rectangular floor plan, and to keep in the overall facades with solids and voids that were in harmony with the traditional houses in the core.
The house was gutted and totally rebuilt.
A floor was added and an exterior volume was aggregated to create a terrace and a room below connected to the garden. This volume was clad in stone, and it echoes the shape and appearance of the manure store that was located there
For the interior, I was inspired by mountain cabins, but added a fresh and contemporary touch.
The house is equipped with all the comforts that a new home requires, with a thermopump heating system connected to coils that heat all floors of the house.
