Mendrisio hospital

The proposed site is located in an area of Mendrisio that has developed around a number of significant buildings surrounded by majestic gardens: an ensemble of great value both historically-culturally and as a new health-school center of regional importance.

The project emphasizes these peculiarities of the site with the creation of a new quality public space, clearly demarcated to the south by the new extension, which proposes on the first floor a portico facing directly onto the new park.

The extension wing is presented as a body on three levels above ground, capable of enhancing both the outdoor spaces between the two hospital bodies and those between the buildings facing along Turconi Street.

The building is kept at the height of most of the surrounding buildings, thus giving importance to the main body of the hospital as an exception within the common park.
